what is 4:2:2?
Dear it is Video Codec or you can say a video format, as you are Enigma 2 user i think you should be aware about that.
The basic explanation is
4:2:0 Codec is accessible by every ordinary receiver while 4:2:2 codec is only accessible by Enigma 2 boxes Via the Web Interface. in VLC Player.
"4:2:2 means the chrominance is horizontally subsampled by a factor of two ... signal at the coder prior to transmission and re-inserting it at the decoder. ..."
Suffice it to say that 4:2:2 transmissions can only be decoded by specialist receivers as i mentioned Enigma 2
Standard transmissions are 4:2:0
