Eton Forever - 2.20 Ascot

Roger Varian landed a little bit of a shock when he won the Dewhurst with Belardo on Friday and I reckon he could trump that on the surprisement scale by taking the QIPCO British Champion Sprint with ETON FOREVER. This horse has never run over six furlongs which explains his big odds, but he loves Ascot, handles soft ground very well and he hasn't looked short of pace at Group Three level over seven furlongs. The unpenalised Group One horses obviously dominate the market here, but a stiff six on soft ground is all new to G Force and Gordon Lord Byron has yet to impress at Ascot after many attempts. There isn't a lot of obvious early pace in here, but An Saighdiur is likely to blaze a trail from stall six and that's handy for Eton Forever, berthed two gates away in stall eight. More of a concern is that he simply won't be fast enough, but I'm prepared to take that chance
