As easy as ABC for PSG

Post by sake »

Ian Ogg previews Wednesday's games in the Champions League and expects Manchester City and PSG to win well.

1.5pts PSG to win to nil against APOEL Nicosia

1pt Sergio Aguero to score in a Manchester City win

It should prove to be a relatively straightforward evening for the English sides with both Manchester City and Chelsea long odds-on, as are the favourites in four of the other six ties.

There will be a temptation to lump a few of the jollies in an acca and so many of the firms offer enhanced odds on trebles and above now that their offers will be well worth checking out come Wednesday.

Manchester City put their qualification at risk when throwing away a two-goal lead in Moscow and will be looking to stamp their authority on proceedings at the Etihad.

CSKA have conceded at least twice in nine of their last 10 games in this competition and the layers are expecting the onion bag to be bulging again with over 3.5 around the even-money mark which is far too short to appeal.

City won the corresponding fixture 5-2 last season (having won 2-1 away) and backing them to win with both teams to score makes some appeal given their vulnerability at the back and the Russians' attacking options.

Sergio Aguero scored twice in that match and he can be backed at around 3/1 to grab another brace which doesn't seem the worst price given his (customary) rich vein of form (nine goals in his last eight games) and he's certainly the focal point of the City attack these days.

City's record in this competition is abject but they should prove far too strong for a team that has never won in England in five attempts and lost a crucial league game against Zenit at the weekend.

Chelsea brushed Maribor aside at the Bridge, winning 6-0, and it's difficult to see any other outcome than another comprehensive victory for Jose Mourinho's men.

They have a league game with Liverpool on the Saturday which may tempt Mourinho to rotate his side which tempers enthusiasm. Besides which, Maribor's performance in London may have been an aberration rather than the norm given that they have secured draws against Lisbon and Schalke.

As such, the fractionally odds-on quotes (evens in a place) about the Slovenians +2 on the handicap is worth considering.

Maribor will be keen to give a better representation of themselves and that will also be true of Roma who were thrashed 7-1 by Bayern Munich in an extraoardinary game.

The Italians cannot be fancied in Germany after that humiliation and their confidence must have been shaken further by a loss to fourth-placed Napoli at the weekend.

Victory will secure Bayern's place in the last 16 and they should accomplish this with the minimum of fuss, taking their unbeaten run to 16 games in the process.

Roma are down to the bare bones defensively whereas Pep Guardiola welcomed Arjen Robben back into the fold at the weekend and Roma may just be keen to embark on a damage limitation exercise.

PSG can also secure their spot in the next round with victory over APOEL Nicosia and, again, that's something that should be achieved without any drama.

The Parisians are unbeaten in 11 home games in the competition and in their last 16 games overall; they have far too much strength in depth for their Cypriot opponents.

However, the visitors lost by just the one goal in the reverse fixture and at Barcelona which suggests that they won't be rolled over but the general 4/5 about PSG winning to nil makes plenty of appeal as a way to get the French onside.

Barcelona have lost both matches in which Luis Suarez has played but the Uruguayan could help the Spaniards get back on track against one of his former clubs.

Ajax actually won the reverse fixture 2-1 last season but have yet to gain maximum points in any of their group fixtures in the current campaign and lost 3-1 at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are prohibitively short despite their recent travails and couldn't be backed with any confidence but Luis Enrique will be looking for a response to their defeat to Celta Vigo and his players should respond.

Suarez will be regaining his match sharpness bit-by-bit and it would be no surprise to see him find the net here but there is little appeal in the prices
