Malky Mackay’s appointment as the new Wigan Athletic boss has seen Football League sponsors Sky Bet price up some specials on the Scot at his new club.
They are 7/4 to finish above Mackay’s former club Cardiff, who they currently trail by seven points with 29 games still to play.
It’s 10/1 that they go through the remainder of 2014 unbeaten in the Championship, while you can get 14/1 that Wigan win their first three games under Mackay’s leadership – Middlesbrough (H), Sheffield Wednesday (A) and Norwich (H).
Their Chris Spicer said: “Despite cries from local MPs, Wigan have taken a chance on Malky Mackay in what could prove to be a shrewd piece of business.
“Mackay was available for nothing after an innocuous split from Cardiff and recent failures in interviews for other roles. The Scotsman will take charge of a solid squad with a chance of promotion, despite their position in the relegation zone.
“Our 10/1 on a Wigan relegation is the best price available.”
