City to be thwarted again

Post by sake »

Sunderland can trouble Manchester City once again on Wednesday, says our Andy Schooler. He's previewed all four Premier League games.

2pts Sunderland-draw in Double Chance market v Man City

1pt Leon Osman to score at any time v Hull

Arsenal v Southampton (1945 GMT)

Rightly or wrongly, Arsene Wenger has taken plenty of flak this season but whatever your view on the Frenchman you surely have to take into account a shocking injury list he's had this season. Heading into this game, things seem to have hit a new low. OK, Olivier Giroud is now back playing but now Nacho Monreal, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have joined Wojech Szechny and Mikel Arteta on the sidelines. And that's before we get to long-term absentees Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Debuchy, Jack Wilshere and David Ospina. The injuries sustained at the weekend by Monreal and Gibbs leaves you wondering just who is going to fill in at left-back - Mathieu Flamini? - but whoever it is that will surely by an area Southampton will look to target with the pace of Nathaniel Clyne down that side. Everton did it very well last season against the Gunners in a similar situation. Essentially it is definitely worth considering opposing the hosts, who have won only two of six home games ths far. Southampton sit above them in the table remember and have also already won here in the League Cup. Some would argue that came against a weakened team but the side Wenger will select here will not be anywhere neat his best either. My concern is how badly damaged have Southampton been by their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, particularly in terms of self-belief? It began a run of tough games and only at the end of it will we see whether they are serious top-four contenders or not. Morgan Schneiderlin is out here and he'll be a big miss. You can get 23/20 backing Southampton (+0.5) on the Asian handicaps which is essentially laying Arsenal but that looks to me as if the bookies have taken good note of Arsenal's problems. If you are having a bet on the TV game, this looks to be it, but I'm happy to put my money elsewhere.
