TWA Completes the Landing Station of SEA-ME-WE-5 in Karachi

Post by Umair Malik »

Transworld Associates Private Limited (TWA) today announced that it has completed the deployment of SEA-ME-WE-5 landing station in Hawke’s Bay, Karachi. With this TWA is now ready for connectivity as soon as the submarine cable will be fully deployed in few months’ time.

With design capacity of 24 Terabit per second (Tbit/s) — almost six times of Pakistan’s current capacity — SEA-ME-WE-5 will be fully operated and maintained by TWA in Pakistan.

For the purpose the landing station has been deployed now and company is all set to get connected with the cable as soon as the deployment work of submarine cable will be completed.

While TWA didn’t give us any ETA on completion of SEA-ME-WE-5, but we know through sources that it won’t take more than 2-4 months to get this task done.

Talking about its benefits, Mr. Kamran Malik, President Transworld said “With SEA-ME-WE 5, TWA will firstly improve its reach in the regions we operate in. Secondly, we will be able to deliver resilient and redundant network solutions with advantages such as flexibility and reliability for our customers. Thirdly, the system will offer a much improved quality of service experience for our customers with lowest latency connectivity solutions.”

TWA is the exclusive participant from Pakistan in the SEA-ME-WE 5 consortium. TWA said that SEA-ME-WE 5 will help meet Pakistan’s high speed connectivity demands based on its rapidly expanding IT presence globally.

The state of the art SEA-ME-WE 5 will introduce the ground-breaking concept of end to end connection to open and neutral Points of Presence (PoP’s) both in Europe and Asia.

Pakistan is currently connected with the world through four undersea fiber optic cables, while another four are being built and will be operational in the next couple of years.

It maybe recalled that Pakistan’s current international links and bandwidth capacity include:

TW1 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
Sea-Me-We-3 with 480 Gbps with two fibre pairs
Sea-Me-We-4 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
I-ME-WE with Design Capacity of 3.86Tbps
Soon to be Completed:

Sea-Me-We-5 with design capacity of 24Tbps
Following international links with landing points in Pakistan are under construction:

AAE-1 with design capacity of 40Tbps
Silk Road Gateway-1 (With landing points in Karachi and Gwadar)
Pakistan-China Fiber Optic Back-Haul
