Making Antenna Storm Resistant

#1

Post by fmanzoor »

What do you guys have in place to make sure that your antenna does not get moved by winds/storms? I am having problem with 6' (Visiton with default stand) antenna but I know some of you have even bigger antennas. My last attempt which has survived many storms (but not today's) involved using two 2" hex bolts where the V of stand is formed. Is it just me or everyone has to get on the roof to re-align antenna after every time we have a storm?

I am also open to any customised/modified stands that can save me from the hassle of going to roof after every storm. Please share your tips and tricks.

Dear Manzoor,
i have been using moving dishes, mesh dishes since 1998. and I feel sorry to say that the quality of dish stands is degrading with every passing year. back then every dish had a tri-pod type stand which u can fix with bolts or cement and it will never get moved due to storm/strong winds. Now the so-called manufacturer gives you a pathetic pipe stand which usually degrades within 1st couple of years of installation. and you are forced to keep that stand un-fixed on the ground because it is non-adjustment type.
and yes, I have to go to the roof every time when there is a storm to re-align the antennas as well.
The solution to all this is, you can manufacture custom made tripod stand, which can get costly, and its another question that are people still available who can make a good stand for you.

rawl bolts is the final solution if those are tightly fitted ..no need to re-alignment after a heavy wind/storm

@lord

I think that the problem lies partly with the stand because the holes it has won't support more than 2" bolts/screws. I luckily do not have a tripod stand but my antenna has a triangular base, and I think that it would have been better if the manufacturer had made the base bigger. I think that I will try to use metal strip (because holes in the stand aren't big enough to support the bolts) along with rawl bolt at the V of stand as suggested by @DM 900uHD. I will keep an ear out in case any else has better solution that I can use.

You could always solve the stand problem and make it even stronger by using these.
