Sky confirms launch of Sky Asia package
by Raj Baddhan
As revealed exclusively first on BizAsia, BSkyB has today launched its first Asian TV package simply called Sky Asia Pack.
As already announced last month on BizAsia, the package will cost £15.00 per month, which will include ZEE TV, ZEE Cinema, ZEE Punjabi, Sony Entertainment Television Asia, Sony MAX, ARY Digital and B4U Movies.
In order to obtain the new Sky Asia package, customers will need a basic Sky subscription. This will result in the Star TV channels also being available to customers, which are currently a part of the Entertainment package. A basic Sky subscription starts from £21.00 per month.
This is the first time in the history of BSkyB that the company has launched a package offering just Asian TV channels. It will be as a direct competitor to Virgin Media’s successful Asian Mela package. The news today also signals the end of ZEE Network’s own package, which has been running since it launched in 1994 in the UK, similarly VIEWASIA package will soon be axed.
Customers will be able to subscribe to the new Sky Asia package from today by calling up Sky. ZEE Network and VIEWASIA packages will soon be phased out as they migrate existing customers to the new Sky Asia package. The soft launch today will be followed with a full blow out marketing campaign in the next few weeks.
