Monk warns Bony suitors

Post by sake »

Swansea boss Garry Monk has warned it would take an "astronomical" offer to lure striker Wilfried Bony from the Liberty Stadium.

Bony scored 25 goals in his first season after signing for a club-record £12m from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem two summers ago and has netted six times so far this campaign.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are reported admirers but the Ivory Coast international last month signed a contract extension until 2018 and Monk attempted to further ward off interest at his latest pre-match press conference.

"He's a Swansea City player," said Monk, speaking ahead of Tuesday's Premier League visit of QPR.

"In this world, in football, money does dictate things but it would take an astronomical fee for him to ever go anywhere.

"We're not a selling club, we don't need to sell. We're committed to our players and they're committed to us.

"(Bony) loves scoring goals - it's his job - and hopefully it'll continue."

Monk could lose Bony for up to six games in January during the Africa Cup of Nations and while he hopes to add to his squad in January, he refused to confirm any interest in Arsenal's Joel Campbell.

"This is the start of (speculation about) who's going where; we'll be linked to a number of players," he added.

"Hopefully we'll be able to get a couple of bodies in but in terms of names, i'll keep that to myself."
