The number of smart TV households in Germany has increased to more than 20 million.
16.2 million households own a connected TV set while further 4.1 million upgrade their TV set – in most cases older models – through a set-top-box, DVD or Blu-ray player to a smart TV set, reports German industry association Deutsche TV-Plattform with refrence to GfK figures.
The majority of the devices is compliant with interactive multimedia standard HbbTV.
The GfK figures don’t include receivers for IPTV and pay-TV issued directly by platform operators. This segment is believed to amount to at least 6 million boxes.
