Heavy rains and winds lashed the UAE on Thursday, causing traffic jams and accidents across the emirates.
In Abu Dhabi, a multiple car crash was reported near Al Rahba hospital just before the capital's Midfield Terminal project, The National reported, adding that three lanes were flooded.
Motorists have been warned to exercise caution on the roads by Abu Dhabi Police: “For your safety take caution when driving in the rain.”
The conditions were similar in Dubai, with multiple jams reported across the city.
An accident brought traffic to a standstill on Sheikh Zayed Road at Jebel Ali towards Dubai and all lanes were closed to clear the debris.
Another accident on Jumeirah Beach Road involved a 4X4, which smashed into a central reservation, the report said.
SCHOOLS SHUT DOWN
Schools across the UAE were shut down due to the weather, following a notice from the Ministry of Education.
A spokesperson from KHDA told Emirates 24|7 the schools should remain closed due to bad weather. Parents were informed and some rushed to take their children home. School buses were also dropping children home.
Elsewhere, the weeklong Dubai Airshow was also closed on Thursday due to the rough weather, organisers said.
Dubai's Global Village, an open-air fairground, earlier issued a notice saying it would remain closed due to the conditions.
