Strikers can earn their spurs

Post by sake »

Ian Ogg previews Sunday's two games in the Barclays Premier League and he believes the keepers could be in for a busy time.

Sunday's top Premier League tips

1.5pts both teams to score in Palace v Liverpool at 10/11

1pt both teams to score in Hull v Tottenham at 4/5

0.5pt double both teams to score at Palace and Hull at 3.37
Crystal Palace v Liverpool (1330 GMT)

Crystal Palace have lost four of their last five and Liverpool four of their last eight (drawn two, won two) and the Anfield side have only had fewer points at this stage of a campaign in two previous seasons. It doesn't appear as though life is going to get easier anytime soon for Brendan Rodgers with Daniel Sturridge's injury putting more pressure on Mario Balotelli and a collection of strikers that Rodgers appears to have signed to warm the bench. Indeed, such have been their problems in front of goal that their current joint top scorer this season is own goals with three. None of which is intended to put the boot in to the Reds but it does highlight the difficulty in backing the favourites at odds-on to take all three points in London at a ground where they imploded so spectacularly last season. There will be a few demons to exorcise (no matter what people might say) and that should provide sufficient motivation but motivation alone will not be enough. The Eagles' defensive solidity under Tony Pulis appears to be a thing of the past (although they did perform better at Old Trafford) and they've only managed to shut out promoted sides Leicester and Burnley this season. Rather that attempt to predict which of these 'struggling' sides is going to claim the points, it seems to make sense to focus attention on the goal markets. Seven of Palace's league games and seven of Liverpool's have featured over 2.5 goals, an outcome that can be backed at odds against in places which seems to be perfectly reasonable but the preferred option is to back both times to score in a game that promises to provide plenty in the way of entertainment, if not quality.
